Stephan is partner at buerger katsota architects which he founded in 2005 with Demetra Katsota. He leads the design direction and strategy and is fully engaged in all stages of projects’ delivery.
Stephan has taught at a number of schools of architecture, including the University of Patras, the Career Discovery Programme at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, the Boston Architecture Center and the School of Architecture at Lund University.
Stephan has served as independent expert of the Mies van der Rohe Award European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture as well as member of various architectural committees and competition juries, including the Hellenic Institute of Architecture Awards. As editor of ΔΟΜΕΣ International Review of Architecture, Stephan edited 59 issues, 2 Greek Architecture Yearbooks, curated 5 exhibitions and organised 3 european architectural competitions and their respective publications.
Before establishing his own practice Stephan gained professional experience working for EDAW, Shanghai Foster and Partners, London, Arakawa and Madeleine Gins, New York, Roland Rainer Architects, Vienna. Stephan received his Diploma of Architecture with honours from the Architectural Association and Masters of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
Demetra is partner at buerger katsota architects which she founded in 2005 with Stephan Buerger. She leads design research and is closely involved in all stages of project development.
Demetra is Associate Professor of Architectural Design at the University of Patras, Greece where she teaches and coordinates studios, courses and design research. She has lead joint design studios with the University of Toronto, the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of Vienna. In 2015 she was a visiting scholar at Harvard Graduate School of Design. With a cross-scalar, multimedia approach to design and research her interests lie at the intersection of the study of architecture, urbanism and landscape. She is the initiator and leader of the on-going design research www.coastaldomains.org which aims to systematically record and assess the dichotomous phenomena of territorial transformations across coastal territories envisioning cohesive strategies for the design and management of a more sustainable, future North Eastern Mediterranean.
As editor of ΔΟΜΕΣ International Review of Architecture, Demetra edited 59 issues, 2 Greek Architecture Yearbooks, curated 5 exhibitions and organised 3 European architectural competitions and their respective publications.

Alexandros is a model maker at buerger katsota architects, primarily engaged in the development and assembly of physical models across a wide range of projects.
His work supports the design process from early conceptual stages through to detailed development, contributing to the exploration and communication of architectural ideas. He received his Diploma in Architecture from the University of Patras and is registered with the TCG (Greece).

Ilias is a senior architect at buerger katsota architects and a BIM specialist with extensive experience in residential, commercial, and industrial design across Europe and the Middle East.
His experience includes renovations throughout Greece, hospitality spaces in London, and manufacturing plants in Slovakia and Saudi Arabia. His experience developed while being the BIM Manager at Whitestone Engineers & Contractors for over 7 years. He joined bka in 2025 and is currently working on several ongoing residential and educational projects.
Educated in the UK at Oxford Brookes and Southbank University, Ilias is a registered architect and expert in Revit, BIM workflows, and digital design tools. He works fluently in Greek, French, and English, combining technical precision with creative vision.

Katerina is a senior architect at buerger katsota architects with extensive UK experience in residential and commercial architecture.
Since 2011 she worked in IBI Nightingale gaining experience in educational and medical projects. In 2014 she joined Allies and Morrison in London, where she became an Associate working mainly in residential and educational projects, throughout all stages of design and construction. After 17 years living abroad, she returned to Greece and joined bka in 2023. She has been responsible for K314 office building, a residential compound on Sifnos Island, as well as the UNIC Medical School project that was completed in 2025.
Katerina graduated from the Welsh School of Architecture (WSA) in 2010 with a BSc and a MArch in Architecture. She is a registered Architect with the ARB (UK) and TCG (Greece).

Dora is a senior architect at buerger katsota architects with extensive professional experience both in large and smaller scale projects of significant detailing and planning requirements.
During her professional development, she worked in the leading practices of Bernard Tschumi Architects in New York, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) in London and O’Donnell + Tuomey in Dublin. While in New York, she was also teaching at Columbia University as Bernard Tschumi's teaching fellow and at Barnard College. Since joining bka in 2025, she leads the new UNIC educational campus within the Ellinikon masterplan.
She holds an MSAAD from Columbia University (Hons 1st) and an MArch from the University of Patras (Hons 1st). She was the recipient of academic awards, such as the William Ware Prize, and the Mentzelopoulos, Latsis, Gerondelis and IKY scholarships.
Marielena is an architecture student entering her fifth year of studies at the University of Patras. She joined buerger katsota architects as an intern in July 2026, where she contributes to ongoing projects while developing her understanding of architectural practice. Having recently completed an exchange semester at TU Wien, she has broadened her perspective on architecture and design through an international academic experience.

Iztok is a senior architect at buerger katsota architects with a proven track record of delivering complex, high-profile projects across the UK, India, and Slovenia.
With expertise spanning a wide range of scales and typologies, Iztok has successfully led multidisciplinary teams through all stages of design and construction for award-winning projects. While working in London, he initially focused on high-end residential projects, including the refurbishment of an iconic property in central London. He later joined Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM), where he played a key role in designing and delivering large-scale commercial developments for leading international clients. Upon moving to Athens in 2021, he designs commercial workplaces and residential projects, and joined bka in 2025.
He holds degrees from the School of Architecture in Ljubljana and the Bartlett School of Architecture in London, and is a registered architect with the ARB (UK) and ZAPS (Slovenia).

Katerina is a senior architect at buerger katsota architects with expertise in residential projects.
In 2014 she gained professional experience in Germany by joining Atelier Brückner in Stuttgart, where she was involved in large-scale restoration and exhibition design projects. She developed her expertise and ability to deliver designs within multidisciplinary and multicultural working environments. Following her return to Greece in 2017, Katerina worked as a freelance architect getting involved mainly in residential projects, and she joined bka in 2019.
Katerina is a certified Architect holding a Diploma in Architecture from the National Technical University of Athens. She has also received a Masters of Science in Architecture, specializing in Restoration and Reuse of Historic Buildings from the Technical University of Delft.

Nikolina is an architect at buerger katsota architects with experience across housing, mixed-use, office, and educational projects.
She has collaborated with international architectural practices, contributing to infrastructure, residential, and large-scale developments. Her expertise lies in project coordination and urban planning legislation, managing complex approval processes through a precise, research-driven approach to the built environment. She is currently engaged in the delivery of complex projects at all stages, from design through permitting and implementation.
Nikolina received her Diploma in Architecture and a Masters in Architecture and Urban Design with distinction - both from the University of Patras. She has also completed postgraduate studies in Bioclimatic Design and Environmental Quality at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Kostis is an architectural assistant at buerger katsota architects and a Diploma student at the Department of Architecture at the University of Patras.
Since joining bka in 2024, he has been involved in a range of projects from design development to detailed drawing production, visual communication, and design input, including the UNIC Medical School project in Ellinikon. In parallel, Kostis is a Teaching Assistant at the University of Patras, collaborating with Professor Demetra Katsota on ongoing architectural design research studios, including Retrieving Athens and Coastal Domains. His role involves active engagement with students through guidance and feedback, as well as the coordination of digital platforms and presentation material.
