KUBAN RIVERSIDE HOTEL 2013 -

Situated on the Kuban river on the south of the city of Krasnodar, the brief called for the design of a five star hotel accommodation, along with restaurants and reception facilities suitable for the hosting of conferences and events of different size.

The proposed single volume aims at establishing an urban intensity and presence at a location where urbanity is currently missing. The deeper and low-rise volume negotiates the transition between the verticality and slenderness of the surrounding high-rise housing and commercial developments and the horizontality of the river with the dispersed, small scale ‘dacias’ on its opposite bank. Similarly, the folding of the rectilinear volume along its long sides and roof top is a direct response to its context.

The proposal negotiates the site, develops different public spaces and allows access from varied levels, embracing thus a wider strategy for activating and regenerating the Kuban river in an effort to allow the city to extend alongside it and exploit its spectacular views and leisure potential.
