PX THREE CORNERS 2012 - 2014

The existing space for play is located on the edge of a polygonal shaped communal space at the crossroad of three streets. In contrast to the degraded condition of the space and its equipment, the scale of the surrounding buildings, the lush greenery, the mild traffic on the converging streets, the neighbourhood feeling, render the space familiar and pleasant.

The corner is the fundamental component of any urban formation exposing the character of a city as a point of meeting or collision. Every corner is a crossroad of culture, communication and conciliation. The intervention aims at reinstating the crossroads through three converging territories - ‘corners’ for play. The three rectangular spaces that are created, are defined at ground level with a flat and locally folded coloured wet pour surface. A metal construction manoeuvres in the 'X', 'Y' and 'Z' axis, incorporating swings and climbing nets fit for children aged between three to twelve years, with the aim of enhancing movement skills, balance and coordination as well as possibilities for group play. On the edge of the space, the existing paved surface is reactivated to accommodate seating areas, circulation and ball games.
